The story of the “Together” bandana:
Author Phyllis Theroux, wearing the "Together" bandana by Mister Bandana.
We recently met the author and activist Phyllis Theroux. Phyllis got her start working for the Justice Department in DC in the 1960s, as a paralegal in the Civil Rights Division. Her work took her to Selma, AL, during the times of the historic March to Montgomery in 1965.
In the decades that followed, she’s been a newspaper columnist, teacher, and author. And now at age 82, she has a unique perspective on life and some wonderful ideas. She’s someone you wish you’d get seated next to on a 14-hour flight to Tokyo – so you could talk the whole time.
Phyllis suggested an idea, which we really like. Why not take a black bandana, and a white bandana, and tie them to the roof rack of your car? The two bundled bandanas are a symbol for racial togetherness.
She sent us a photo of her Subaru, with the two bandanas tied to her roof rack, and we were sold.
If you’d like to join Phyllis, and Mister Bandana, in showing your spirit, we’re offering a two-pack of bandanas – one black, one white. The proceeds from this bundle will be donated to Bryan Stevenson's Equal Justice Initiative.
